The society, the Moslems in particular, would be grateful if
Republika would uncover the practice of illegal levies taking
place in the district offices of religious matters (KUA). This
malfeasance has reached a point that is beyond comprehension. In
Duren Sawit district, for example, the marriage administration
fee is as follows:

* Rp 250,000 if the penghulu (religious official in charge of
marriages) is summoned to the bride's house to officiate the
marriage, transportation not included.

* Rp 150,000 if the marriage is conducted in the KUA and Rp
10,000 for the marriage document.

I was told that the cost of marriage administration in South
Jakarta KUA is even higher. It should also be noted that all
payments are made without receipt. The official cost for this
event is only Rp 27,500.
