One of the two agreements, a joint-operation contract, was signed yesterday by PT Pupuk Kaltim and two Japanese firms, Mitsui Co. Ltd. and Tomen Corporation. The two Japanese firms will build a plant to produce 2,000 metric tons of amonia a day.

Barito to build pulp plant JAKARTA (JP): Publicly listed timber producer Barito Pacific Timber plans to set up a pulp plant in Muara Enim, South Sumatra, authorities said yesterday. Muara Enim regent Hasan Zen said Barito would invest about Rp 3.6 billion (US$1.5 million) in the plant. "Construction work for the pulp plant will commence some time next year," he told Antara in Palembang, the province's capital.

Government denies phone call price rise JAKARTA (JP): The government said yesterday it would not raise telephone call charges later this year or early next year. "What we are currently discussing is the new structure of interconnection tariffs between public switched telephones and cellular telecommunications," Director General of Post and Telecommunications Djakaria Purawidjaja said at his office. He said local, long distance or cellular call charges would not increase by next year.
