U.S., Philippines sign treaty

MANILA (AFP): U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher and
his Philippine counterpart, Domingo Siazon, yesterday signed an
extradition treaty and an agreement on mutual legal assistance on
the sidelines of the APEC summit.

"In signing those two agreements we have taken a significant
step to bolster our common efforts to defeat crime and to defend
the rule of law," Christopher said.

Christopher noted the assistance from Manila which had led to
the arrest of Ramsey Youssef, a suspect in the bombing of the
World Trade Center in New York, adding: "The two treaties will
strengthen our united effort against global predators of this
kind."
