Child laborers' low wages MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Indonesian Foundation for Child Avocation charged yesterday that children working in offshore fisheries in the region are paid below the daily local minimum wage of Rp 4,500 (US$1.95). The foundation's litigations coordinator, Marasamin, said that child laborers usually receive less than Rp 50,000 a month. He said the workers are also usually paid only every three months.

Jakarta, a tourist haven From Neraca I noticed a banner in Pasaraya Sultan Agung. I was more puzzled afterwards when a radio broadcast announced a tourist sale in Pasaraya. The sale expanded to Ramayana, Matahari, even Walmart. So why don't we make Jakarta a shopping city, since most malls are holding jumbo sales. Tourist shopping is, in my opinion, a huge project to be tackled together. Why is such an important project not being promoted by the department of tourism?

Police arrest ATM busters SEMARANG: Police caught two university students trying to break open a Jaya Bank Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at the Citraland Simpang Lima shopping complex yesterday. The two students were in the process of stealing money from the ATM when they were arrested by two police officers.
