Joko and Susi top World GP standings
CHELTENHAM, England (Agencies): Joko Suprianto of Indonesia tops the latest World Grand Prix standings in the men's division as compatriot Susi Susanti leads the women's division, issued by the International Badminton Federation yesterday.
Indonesia dominated the finals of the U.S. Open Badminton Championships last week, winning four of the five events -- the men's and women's singles and doubles.
Top-seeded Joko remained atop the international men's singles rankings after beating Denmark's second-seeded Poul-Erik Hoyer- Larsen 15-13, 15-13 in U.S. Open badminton championships at the Orange County Badminton Club.
With his victory over Hoyer-Larsen, the 1996 Olympic gold medalist was rated third in the world. It was the Danish shuttler who defeated Joko in the early round of the Olympic Games in Atlanta, and the victory in California was a sweet revenge of the defeat.
Other titles Indonesia won in California were in the men's doubles won by Chandra Wijaya and Sigit, and the women's singles won by Mia Audina, who won the silver medal at the Olympic Games.
