440 textile workers fired PEKALONGAN, Central Java: More than 440 textile workers lost their jobs after their companies went bankrupt due to a market slump and soaring raw material prices. All were workers at PT Sugih Mitra Kharisma, PT Faristeks and CV Tobal Batik Industri, chief of the local manpower office Suprapto said Wednesday. He said that only a few of the employees of the many thousands in this "textile town" were going to lose their jobs for the same reasons.

RI's economic remain inefficient MANADO, N. Sulawesi (JP): Bank Indonesia's Governor J. Inco's profit increases JAKARTA (JP): PT International Nickel Indonesia (Inco) posted a nearly 50 percent increase in its net profit in the second quarter of this year, rising to US$13.2 million from $7.4 million in the same period of 1994. BNI launches $170m FRN HONG KONG (Reuter): The state-owned Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has launched a 10-year US$170 million floating rate note issue, said lead manager Chase Asia. The notes were launched at par and float at 75 basis points over the six-month London Interbank Offered Rate. There is a fixed re-offer price of 99.50. The notes can be put back to the issuer in year seven and called by the issuer in years five and six.
