Apur River heavily polluted

Apur River heavily polluted

From Republika

The Apur River which lies between our village Buaranjati and
Gintung, Tangerang, West Java, is heavily polluted by the
factories located around Jati Uwung district. This condition has
been going on for a long time, but up to now no action has been
taken by the local authorities.

The river is in fact very useful in at least two ways: as a
washing place for the villagers, and for irrigating the rice
fields lying on both sides of the river.

The river water turns blackish and emits pungent smells and
causes skin irritations, which is very dangerous to our health. I
would like to call on the local administration to take severe
measures against the irresponsible polluters who dump industrial
waste into the river.
