MNLF attacks rival faction ZAMBOANGA, Philippines (AFP): The Philippines' main Moro insurgent group, involved in peace talks with the government, attacked a rival faction which is not participating in the talks, a military spokesman said yesterday. The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) fired four mortar rounds at a Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) camp in Palayan town, 250 kms east of here, Maj. Fredesvindo Covarrubias said. He said the MILF, an offshoot of the MNLF, didn't fire back.

First, I think the name of the new Masyumi was adopted from a popular Islamic party that was banned in the 1960s because of its association with some members of the armed forces. Two killed in train crash SEMARANG: Two villagers were killed when a train overturned in Poncowolo village near here yesterday. The accident also halted rail services between Jakarta and Semarang, Antara reported. The Fajar Utama passenger train was on its way from Jakarta to Semarang when its driver lost control after it hit a passing truck. As a result of the impact, one of the carts went out of its tracks and smashed into a house, killing two people inside.
