JAKARTA: India's ambassador to Indonesia Sudhir T. Devare on Wednesday laid the foundation stone to launch the construction of a day-cum-residential international school in Purwakarta, West Java.

The school, which is expected to start up in August 1996, is being set up by the Rama International School Foundation, through the initiative of PT Indorama Synthetics. The 45,000 square campus is located in the company's complex.

In a statement, the school said it expects to enroll 280 students when it opens next year. It is targeting children of expatriates working or residing in Purwakarta, Karawang, Bekasi, Subang and Cirebon.

Classes will be taught in English with curricula in line with university entrance requirements of India, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.
