New Masyumi confusing
New Masyumi confusing
From Media Indonesia
The news reports on the new Masyumi, or Masyumi-Ridwan,
published in the media are confusing and difficult to digest.
First, I think the name of the new Masyumi was adopted from a
popular Islamic party that was banned in the 1960s because of its
association with some members of the armed forces. Clearly,
Ridwan exploits it. So, the consideration in establishing a new
organization needs confidence.
Second, Ridwan's statement was inaccurate and confusing. On
one occasion he said that the new Masyumi will eventually become
a political party, but on another he suggested that the
establishment of the organization was to meet Moslem demand.
Clearly his two statements contradict each other. He doesn't
want the organization to be politically oriented. But the fact is
that he tends to give political weight to Masyumi.
