JAKARTA (JP): The late Arifin C. Noer was named Best Director last night for his Keris at this year's television drama festival.

Meanwhile, Menghitung Hari (Counting the Days), directed by Enison Sinaro, won this year's Best Sinetron (television drama) award and came away with three other awards: Best Actor (Sandi Nayoan), Best Cinematography (Rudi Kurwet), and Best TV Drama Series.
The Best Actress award was won by Cut Keke in Nyai Dasima.

Si Doel Anak Sekolahan II (Doel the Graduate II) was named Favorite Sinetron, Dukun Palsu (Fake Medicine Man) Best Comedy and Jejak Sang Guru Best Single-Episode Sinetron.
More than 600 sinetron were entered in the Second Sinetron Festival.
Benjamin Sueb, a prominent actor, singer and composer who died in September this year, received a special Legend Award for his dedication to the preservation of Betawi culture.
Minister of Information Harmoko, who closed the festival last night at the Concert Hall in Ratu Plaza, Central Jakarta, predicted that the sinetron business would continue to flourish.
He said the 1,400 TV dramas produced last year were well below demand, saying the six television stations currently operating in Indonesia need about 4,500 sinetrons a year.
Harmoko said he hoped that the sinetron industry would be able to curb the negative impact of the wave of Western culture.
The minister said that 80 percent of all programs aired by Indonesian TV stations should be locally produced. (sim)
