Tube venture in RI
Tube venture in RI TOKYO (AFP): Nippon Electric Glass Co. Ltd. and Sumitomo Corp. of Japan said yesterday they would form a joint venture in Indonesia to produce cathode ray tube glass. Nippon Electric would hold a 75 percent stake in the new venture, to be capitalized at US$25 million, with Sumitomo holding 20 percent. The balance would be held by a local company, PT Bukaka Teknik Utama.

Philippines elected to host AdAsia '97 NUSA DUA, Bali (JP): The 19th Asian Advertising Congress closed here yesterday with the Philippines elected to host the 20th congress in 1997. "Manila has been a favorite from the beginning," said Baty Subakti, the chairman of AdAsia '95. Thailand won out for the 1990 congress, beating India by one vote in the election. Baty admitted that there were political considerations in India's defeat.

Bimantara Citra performs well, increase profit JAKARTA (JP): Publicly-listed PT Bimantara Citra has reported an 80 percent increase in its net consolidated profit for the first nine months of this year, to Rp 80.99 billion (US$35.4 million) from Rp 45.05 billion in the corresponding period of 1994. Finance Director Kadir Assegaf said yesterday the net profit in the January-September period exceeded the net income of Rp 54.96 billion booked for the whole of 1994.

My father's citizenship certificate (a VI B form) is not registered at the state court. And the result is that I was denied a passport. Three awarded title of National Hero JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto conferred the title of National Hero on three men yesterday: Nuku Muhammad Amiruddin Kaicil Paparangan, Tuanku Tambusai and Syekh Yusuf Tajul Khalwati. Soeharto also conferred awards of meritorious service on 50 deceased people, all of whom were represented by either their widows or heirs. Nuku was from Halmahera in Maluku, Tambusai from South Sumatra and Syekh Yusuf came from Goa in South Sulawesi.

PPD employees to be rehabilitated JAKARTA (JP): Six employees at the state-owned public transportation firm PPD will receive back pay dating to October 1991. The Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) said in a statement yesterday that Paiman, Tarmid Suharto, Usman, Suryadi, Mardjan Gunadi and Sukirman will receive back salaries of Rp 1 million (US$445) each from the company. PPD is also expected to rehabilitate their names and pay the Rp 338,650 in court expenses.

BTN to issue $152.9m five-year bonds JAKARTA (JP): State-owned Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) will issue five-year bonds next month to raise up to Rp 350 billion (US$152.9 million) from the public to help finance its housing loans, the bank's president said yesterday. "Actually the value of the bonds, called BTN Bonds VI, is Rp 250 billion and we will increase the size by another Rp 100 billion if the offering is oversubscribed," Widigdo Sukarman said in a public presentation at the BTN Tower here.

Cilacap refinery resumes operations JAKARTA (JP): The refinery of state oil company Pertamina in Cilacap, Central Java, which was shut down two weeks ago after a fire, will resume production today at 75 percent of capacity, Pertamina announced yesterday. Harjono leads race in Ikadin election YOGYAKARTA (JP): Incumbent chairman Harjono Tjitrosoebono appears set to be re-elected to the helm of the Indonesian Bar Association (Ikadin), after his strongest challenger, Todung Mulya Lubis, was technically excluded from the race yesterday. On Wednesday evening, Harjono's camp managed to block an attempt to have the association's statutes revised. The amendment would have made Mulya's election possible within the rules.

I want to know about their achievements and how much they dedicated their lives to the struggle for Indonesia's independence. If books on national heroes are non-existence, I think the government should consider compiling and publishing some for the sake of the younger generations.
