Frequent quakes in North Maluku TERNATE, Maluku: North Maluku has been jolted by 2,386 earthquakes between January and July, according to the local office of the Geophysics agency. Office chief Ariyo Fauzi told Antara that 42 quakes were of magnitudes between five and 5.5 on the Richter scale. The others are small quakes.

In fact, as of today, there are less than three million university first degree (Sarjana) holders out of 189 million Indonesians. The new recruits will be employed in several city projects, including the construction of a 7,650-meter-long duct to prevent flooding on the city's streets. The mayoralty will recruit the people from five subdistricts, including Pasar Minggu, Tegal Parang and Pela Mampang. They will be paid from Rp 2,000 ($0.92) to RP 3,000 ($1.3) a day.

Humpuss to establish $330m methanol plant JAKARTA (JP): A subsidiary of Humpuss Group yesterday assigned Lurgi Oil-Gas-Chemie Gmbh of Germany to construct a methanol plant worth US$330 million in Bontang, East Kalimantan, with an annual capacity of 660,000 tons. The project will be the first private methanol plant and the second producer of such a downstream chemical product in Indonesia after the first one established by the state oil company Pertamina in 1983.
