Frequent quakes in North Maluku
TERNATE, Maluku: North Maluku has been jolted by 2,386 earthquakes between January and July, according to the local office of the Geophysics agency.
Office chief Ariyo Fauzi told Antara that 42 quakes were of magnitudes between five and 5.5 on the Richter scale. The others are small quakes.
Most of the epicenters are located in Maluku sea, west of the Halmahera island and on the Banda sea, while most of the North Maluku region has been declared as prone to quakes, he added. (par)
