Loan for Semen Gresik JAKARTA (JP): PT Semen Gresik, a state-owned cement firm listed on the capital market here, yesterday received a syndicated loan worth Rp 363.3 billion (US$158.3 million) to finance its Tuban II production unit. The company said that the loan was provided by five state- owned banks led by Bank Dagang Negara. The other banks were Bank Ekspor Impor Indonesia, Bank Negara Indonesia, PT Bank Pembangunan Indonesia and Bank Tabungan Negara.

School building collapses JEMBER, East Java: Heavy rain caused the roof of the Ambulu III Elementary School building to collapse on Wednesday and left cracks in the walls of a number of classrooms. The collapse occurred during school hours, but the children had already been evacuated to a nearby Moslem prayer house. The children have resumed their studies in the school's yard, Antara reported. "I knew the roof was about to collapse, so I told the students to move out," one of the teachers said.

7,000 buses for holidays JAKARTA (JP): The city administration will deploy 7,085 buses from Dec. 18 to Jan. 4, 1996 to meet transportation demand during the Christmas and New Year's holidays, an official says. The head of the traffic department of the city land transportation control agency, Herman Tonglo Langi, said yesterday that none of the buses is new. As many as 6,405 of the buses are regular inter-city buses, while the remaining 680 buses are public buses.

Suspected criminal shot dead JAKARTA (JP): Police have confirmed reports of a suspected criminal being killed on Monday. Sources at the City Police Headquarters said on Wednesday that Santo Abu Nawas was shot dead in Kosambi, West Jakarta, while resisting arrest. The 37-year-old criminal was known to police as a trouble maker and was wanted for his last robbery in Bogor, police said. An officer shot him five times, including in the head, when he tried to escape.

Today, most condoms are latex, but some are still made of processed collagenous tissues from the intestinal cecum of lambs. Penis coverings have been used for at least seven centuries to prevent pregnancy and infection, or as decoration. A sheath worn over the penis can be traced back as far back as 1350 B.C.

Children's growth stunted BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Poor nutrition has stunted the growth of as many as 36 percent of all first-grade primary school children here, Antara reported on Monday. Arvin Dyanto, the head of the nutrition department of the local office of the Ministry of Health, said low consumption of protein and other nutrients caused many children in the province to be below the normal height for their age.
