Suspected criminal shot dead

JAKARTA (JP): Police have confirmed reports of a suspected
criminal being killed on Monday.

Sources at the City Police Headquarters said on Wednesday that
Santo Abu Nawas was shot dead in Kosambi, West Jakarta, while
resisting arrest.

The 37-year-old criminal was known to police as a trouble
maker and was wanted for his last robbery in Bogor, police said.

An officer shot him five times, including in the head, when he
tried to escape. His body was then taken to the police hospital
in Kramat Jati, West Jakarta.

Another man was also shot on Monday in connection with a
robbery in Bogor. The five others involved are still at large.
However, an officer said, "police have identified them". (09)
