The ongoing raids on hoodlums conducted by the Jakarta police
should be extended to the thugs who extort students going to
school and returning home.

These thugs are usually youngsters of school age. They operate
in twos or threes and approach their victim with questions, like
what school the victim belongs to.

If the unwitting victim should answer that he belongs to the
wrong school, one not allied with the gang, they take his pocket
money or even watch.

The extortion has moved into the city's buses.

If the authorities need proof, I suggest that undercover
policemen ride the bus during school hours. I once traveled on a
Miniarta minibus from Cisalak to Kampung Rambutan at 11:30 a.m.
and saw two "students" getting on the bus at Palsigunung. They
took money from a student and then got off before Cijantung.
