Ulemas and AIDS
Ulemas and AIDS
From Neraca
The role of ulemas in helping society come to grips with the
spread of AIDS is of major importance, because religious teachers
are in a position to pass on messages for the prevention of the
disease.
I would like to suggest to the Indonesian Ulema Council to
give the necessary information on AIDS to ulemas in conformity
with Islamic teachings so as to help them pass the information on
to the public.
We feel very sad that 55 of the 135 people with AIDS in
Indonesia have died. Those are the official figures. Apparently
there are many more cases of HIV.
The government too should regularly issue information on AIDS
to the public.
