Govt to issue Rp 5t bonds JAKARTA: The Indonesian government plans to issue Rp 5 trillion (US$562 million) of bonds within two months to support the state budget, Minister of Finance Boediono said Monday. Boediono didn't provide further details. The Rp 5 trillion issue is part of the government's efforts to raise Rp 7.7 trillion this year from the local debt market to help refinance some of the maturing bonds issued after the 1997- 98 Asian Financial crisis to bail out the banking system.

Obituary Comedian Ateng died on Tuesday at Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Jatinegara, East Jakarta, where he was being treated for a growth in his throat. He was 61 years old. Ateng, who was known as Ateng Suripto alias Andreas Ateng Leo, was born in Jakarta in 1942 as Kho Tjeng Lie. He rose to fame with the comic troupe Kwartet Jaya, which also featured now ailing Edi Sud, the late Iskak and Bing Slamet. Ateng also starred in several films with his group over the years.

Three killed in robbery in Medan Apriadi Gunawan The Jakarta Post Medan Robbers shot dead three people in a heist at the Medan branch of Bank Lippo on Tuesday, making off with the bank's cash box containing Rp 133 million (US$13,000). Two of the bank's security guards, Eddi Ridwansyah and Syamsuddin, died at the scene. Joni Purba, who worked as a driver for the bank, died at a hospital belonging to the Police Mobile Brigade. Witnesses counted four robbers at the Lippo branch on Jl. Dr. Mansyur.
