Java WONOSOBO, Central Java: Local police seized a total of 50,000 firecrackers in Karanggondang village on Thursday and were searching for two alleged dealers, an official said. Earlier in the day, police in the neighboring town of Kebumen confiscated 10,000 firecrackers and 40 kilograms of gunpowder in Sumberadi village. Capt. Sukamto of Central Java Police said a man identified as Sukarman, 33, had been arrested for allegedly producing the firecrackers.

Man killed for burning house SEMARANG: A man was beaten to death by residents of Bulu village in Temanggung regency on Thursday after setting his parents' house on fire. Central Java Police spokesman Lt. Col. M. Ramlie said Sutoto, 26, was mobbed after he stabbed three people who asked him not to go ahead with burning the house. According to this report, National Police chief Gen. Roesmanhadi stated that he would send armored vehicles in two or three days to help restore security in Ambon. My concern is not unreasonable. Timor JAKARTA (JP): Lawyers representing Indonesian Military (TNI) generals who are to be questioned over suspected rights abuses in East Timor, were denied entry to the territory on Friday and have been told by UN officials to try again next week. "We understand that it was immediate entry they were seeking," director of the human rights division of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) Sidney Jones said.

LG Pumps to set up plant JAKARTA (JP): South Korean company LG Pumps plans to invest US$10 million in a factory in West Java to strengthen its market position in Indonesia and neighboring countries, the company's sales director Chang In Suk announced on Friday. Chang said the plant, which will have a monthly production capacity of 80,000 water pumps, was scheduled to begin supplying the Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese and Philippine markets in late 2001.
