Gang robs Rp 36m in cash, equipment

DENPASAR, Bali: A gang of robbers burst into an electronic goods supplier and an office next door and got away with more than Rp 36 million in cash and several kinds of electronic equipment on Thursday.

The robbers, numbering six or seven, also injured four security guards during the predawn hold up.

Bali Police spokesman Lt. Col. Y. Suyatmo said the guards and managers of the electronic shop, PT Cahaya Murni, and the other firm, PT Cireko, had been questioned. "We have also dispatched our personnel to areas where the criminals are suspected to be hiding," Suyatmo said.

He said the robbers stormed into the buildings, which are situated next to each other on Jl. Cokroaminoto, at about 1.00 a.m. after scaling the walls.

They took six sets of stereo cassette players belonging to PT Cahaya Murni and a safe belonging to PT Cireko, before fleeing in a green van, Suyatmo quoted the guards as saying. (zen)
