PON to spend Rp 61 billion

SURABAYA (JP): The 15th National Games (PON) organizers
announced on Friday that the quadrennial event would cost nearly
Rp 61 billion (US$8.6 million).

The organizers chairman, Imam Utomo, who is also East Java
governor, said the biggest portion of the budget would come from
the Provincial Budget of Rp 35 billion, financial help from the
National Sports Council and sponsorship.

About 7,000 athletes from 26 provinces will take part in 35
sports events.

The opening and closing ceremonies will cost between Rp 5 and
7 billion. (nur)
