400 garment factory workers go on strike in North Jakarta JAKARTA (JP): More than 400 workers, mostly women, of a garment factory on Jl. Agung Perkasa, in Sunter Podomoro, North Jakarta, went on strike yesterday demanding an explanation of the factory's relocation plan. A spokesperson of the protesters, Misiati, said the planned relocation of PT Pasifik Rimasri Garmen, scheduled for July 15, had not been discussed with workers.

Schroder launches 2 mutual funds JAKARTA (JP): PT Schroder Investment Management (SIM) Indonesia launched yesterday two open-end mutual funds -- Schroder-Panin Dana Mantap and Schroder-Panin Dana Prestasi -- to raise public funds. The company said the first fund would be a fixed income fund expecting lower risk and stable returns while the latter one would be a balanced fund with a focus on equities. PT SIM Indonesia is 85 percent owned by Schroders Indonesia and 15 percent by Panin Sekuritas.

Kalbe buys Woods brand JAKARTA (JP): PT Kalbe Farma, a publicly listed pharmaceutical company, has spent US$14.4 million to buy Woods brand-name and business from W.E. Woods Pty Ltd and Woods Pharmaceutical Australia Pty Ltd, Kalbe said yesterday. Woods, an established brand for cough syrup and peppermint cures, was started by William Edward Woods in 1895. The brand is available in seven nations and has trademarks registered in more than 20 countries.

Bank Putra issues $25m notes HONG KONG (Reuter): Indonesia's PT Bank Putra Surya Perkasa is expected to launch a US$25 million floating rate certificates of deposit issue on Thursday, arranger AB Capital Markets (HK) said. The issue will be divided into two tranches. Tranche A has a maturity of three years with a put option at the end of year two while tranche B has two years maturity. Both tranches will pay a coupon of 140 basis points over the Singapore Interbank Offered Rate.

The deal is guaranteed by PT Bakrie Investindo. The facility has a final maturity of four years. The issue was priced at par to float at 300 basis points over the six-month London Interbank Offered Rate. With fees, all-in return for top-tier managers is 360 basis points.

Seven die in diarrhea outbreak PADANG, West Java: At least seven people have died and dozens have been hospitalized since an outbreak of diarrhea hit southern Solok regency last Thursday, a local official said yesterday. West Sumatra health office spokesman Rahmatsyah Mansur told Antara that the provincial government had sent a medical team to the affected area. Mansur said medical personnel in Muaro Labuh Hospital were working hard to save seven patients who were in a critical condition.

Body found in hotel JAKARTA (JP): A body of a man was found yesterday in a room of a hotel on Jl. Pramuka, Central Jakarta. A police sergeant at Central Jakarta Police precinct said the body of Edi Sulaiman, 40, was found by an employee in a room of the hotel at about 6 a.m. The officer said Edi, a resident of Jl. Rawamangun, slept at the hotel with a woman. Police believed the man died of a heart attack, he said.
