Garuda increases cargo tariffs up to 35 percent JAKARTA (JP): Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia raised its domestic cargo tariffs by a range between 30 percent and 35 percent as of Dec. 1. Chandra Giri, the head of the airline's cargo division, said the tariff increase was made to compensate for the depreciation of the Indonesian rupiah against the U.S. dollar and higher fuel prices. The tariff increase in the airline's cargo service was the first in the last three years, Chandra said.

Three Germans deported UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: Immigration authorities deported three Germans over the weekend for illegally working as diving instructors in a recreation resort of Tanjung Bira Beach. The three Germans were identified as T.B. Breseel, H.L. Goring, and Hilpert. An immigration official, Anggoro, was quoted by Antara as saying that the three had worked in the resort renting diving equipment without having a work permit from the Ministry of Manpower and local tourism office.

BDNI's profit rises 30% JAKARTA (JP): Bank Dagang Nasional Indonesia's (BDNI's) net income for the year's first nine months rose 30 percent to Rp 123.4 billion (US$52.7 million) from Rp 95.1 billion for the same period of 1995. The rise was supported by increases in net interest income and fee income, which were up 17 percent and 58 percent for a 28 percent increase in operating income. The bank said it was confident it would achieve its target of Rp 165 billion net profit for 1996. (hen)

Sunkyong enters Mexico SEOUL (UPI): South Korea's Sunkyong Engineering and Construction Ltd. has signed a US$24.6-million contract to build an oil refinery plant in Mexico, a spokesman said Friday. State-run Pemex (Petroleos Mexicanos) plans to extract 80 tons of sulfur a day from crude oil, spokesman IHM Byung-soo said. Construction is set to begin later this month in Salina Cruz in western Mexico. The plant is slated for completion in May 1998, Ihm said.
