HIV/AIDS cases reach to 466
JAKARTA: This month three more people -- two Jakarta residents
and a West Java resident -- have been infected with HIV/AIDS, an
official from the Ministry of Health said this weekend.
With this weekend's report, the total number of HIV/AIDS cases
this year in Indonesia reached 466, Director General for the
Control of Contagious Diseases Hadi M. Abednego was quoted by
Antara as saying.
Abednego said that of the total number of infected people, 354
were HIV positive and 112 have full-blown AIDS. He said 311 are
men and 135 women.
Further, Abednego said that 376 contracted the disease through
sexual contact, five through injection needles, two through blood
transfusions, two being hemophiliacs, and one baby through its
mother. The origins of the other cases are yet unknown. (08)
