Road needs serious repair

BOGOR, West Java (JP): A Bogor road which has been repaired three times in the past year needs repairing again, locals said over the weekend.

Local residents said Jl. Pajajaran, which stretches a kilometer from the North Bogor Police subprecinct to the Warung Jambu junction was built in November last year and was opened early this year.

Kanwa, who owns a restaurant on the street, said the road was damaged after a four month operation.

A parking attendant operating in the area said "many motorbikes have overturned and accidents occurred, especially at night".

The road has large potholes which force motorists to be extra careful.

Kanwa said his business had suffered since the road was damaged. "Fewer people visit my restaurant. My income has dropped by 40 percent lately".

Salmah, a woman who has a handicraft shop, said business was becoming worse and worse. "Buyers must be reluctant to come because of the bad road".

An assistant to the Bogor mayor, Usman Zakaria, said his office was not obliged to repair the road. "The road belongs to the province. That means the provincial public works office is responsible for the repair". (24)
