Kawasaki expands in Jakarta TOKYO (AFP): Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. is to invest 300 million yen (US$3 million) to boost motorcycle production in Indonesia by 80 percent to 66,000 units a year, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said yesterday. Kawasaki Motor Indonesia, a local unit of the machinery and engineering company, would set up production lines for motorcycle engines in February and hire another 100 employees at its Jakarta plant, the newspaper said.

The new company, PT Nityasa Prima, is to build its mill in the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan on the island of Borneo, SPP said in a statement. It would have a production capacity of 350,000 air-dried tons a year.

2 quarry workers buried alive CIREBON, West Java: Two workers of a sand quarry in the Gemulung Tonggoh village died on Sunday after a 15 meter overhanging sand cliff collapsed and buried them. A police source told Antara that the victims were Kartim, 30 and a newlywed, and Toha, 29. Kartim was a local resident, while Toha came from Pengarengan village. The landslide took place so suddenly that the victims, who were working with a number of other workers, did not have time to escape.
