Jakarta-Bekasi flyover urgent

JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Public Works Radinal Moochtar has
said that the Jakarta-Bekasi elevated toll road is urgently
needed.

He said the feasibility study has been completed, and a
technical study on the design will be made, Antara reported
yesterday.

He said that his office is coordinating with the city
administration concerning land appropriation.

According to Radinal, fewer toll gates would be preferable on
the planned elevated turnpike. "Too many toll gates might cause
congestion."

He said the new toll road, scheduled to be built in 1997, and
the arterial road parallel to it could be operated
simultaneously. "In this way one-way traffic could easily use the
arterial road," he said.

The arterial road will be constructed by the city
administration, while the toll road will be built by PT Jasa
Marga, the state-owned company dealing with highway construction
