Kawasaki expands in Jakarta
TOKYO (AFP): Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. is to invest 300 million yen (US$3 million) to boost motorcycle production in Indonesia by 80 percent to 66,000 units a year, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said yesterday.
Kawasaki Motor Indonesia, a local unit of the machinery and engineering company, would set up production lines for motorcycle engines in February and hire another 100 employees at its Jakarta plant, the newspaper said.
The move was aimed at meeting growing demand for motorcycles in the country, where sales were expected to jump 30 percent to one million units in 1995, Nihon Keizai said.
