IBRA plans to sell another 26 firms this year JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) plans to sell its ownership of around 26 companies in the remaining period of this year in a bid to raise some Rp 7.2 trillion (US$795.58 million) in cash, according to agency vice chairman Arwin Rasyid. Arwin said on Wednesday that Rp 3.62 trillion was expected to be raised in the July-September period, while the remaining half in the October-December period.

Child kidnapper gets a two-year jail term JAKARTA (JP): Defendant Agus Surya, 42, did not flinch when presiding judge Sri Endang Murwati sentenced him on Tuesday to a mere two years in prison for committing a series of kidnappings over the past nine years. "The defendant is guilty of violating Article 328 of the Criminal Code on kidnapping," said the judge. The Article carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in jail.

Haj pilgrimage to cost Rp 19m to Rp 23m JAKARTA (JP): The government and the House of Representatives have agreed to set the cost of the haj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia next year at between Rp 19 million and Rp 23 million. The agreement was reached during a meeting between religious affairs minister Tolchah Hasan, finance minister Bambang Sudibyo and House Commissions VI and IX for religious affairs and finance respectively late on Tuesday. The cost of this year's pilgrimage was Rp 17.76 million.

Granddaughter-in-law of Soeharto to face trial JAKARTA (JP): West Jakarta Police submitted on Wednesday the dossiers of Gusti Maya Firanti Noor, a granddaughter-in-law of former president Soeharto, to the West Jakarta Prosecutor's Office. Maya was arrested while carrying drugs last month in the parking lot of the Lokasari shopping center in West Jakarta. RI to import fuel to meet supply shortage JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia may import fuel from neighboring countries to overcome pressing fuel shortages in East Java and Bali, Minister of Mines and Energy Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Wednesday. "I've told (state oil and gas company Pertamina) that during a crisis like this we must resort to importing fuel to meet demands," he told reporters prior to attending a weekly Cabinet meeting.

Ltd. of Japan was reported Wednesday to be ready to take a 49 percent stake in a proposed joint-venture company with two Malaysian automotive firms. The national news agency, Bernama, cited industry sources as saying that the two Malaysian firms, DRB-Hicom and Oriental Holdings, will share the remaining 51 percent. The companies refused to comment pending an official announcement.
