SINGAPORE (DPA): A Singapore childcare center said on
Wednesday that it has become the first in Southeast Asia to
provide parents with the opportunity to log onto the Internet to
check on their offspring from anywhere in the world.
The Cambridge Child Development Center has placed video
cameras in the school's play area, dining room and classrooms.
Moms and dads are able to view live videos at home, work or
from other countries by logging onto the facility's website.
The service enables parents to feel more confident of the care
given to their children, said May Soh, executive director of the
Informatics Group Singapore, which owns the center.
The center became the first to offer the online service after
another facility, Kids Junction, scrapped a similar plan when
parents expressed objections.
Some of the Kids Junction parents said it would be an
intrusion into the lives of their children. Others objected to
videos of their offspring on the Internet, citing concerns of
hacking and unauthorized access.
