Homeless man indicted for murder JAKARTA (JP): A state prosecutor indicted a homeless man yesterday at the Central Jakarta District Court for a murder in the Pejompongan area, Central Jakarta, last December. Prosecutor Rudy Yulianto accused 26-year-old Waimin, alias Sunarto, of killing Faisal, alias Soni, by beating him on the head with a concrete block. Rudy cited revenge as the motive for the alleged murder.

Toyota sales up 9.6% JAKARTA (JP): The car manufacturer PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), a joint venture between Indonesia's PT Astra International and Japan's Toyota Motor, said it sold 10,292 passenger and commercial vehicles in July 1997 compared to 5,996 units in July 1996. Toyota Astra said in a statement to The Jakarta Post yesterday the firm sold 46,443 units in the first seven months of 1997, an increase of 9.6 percent from 42,360 units in the same period last year.

40 questioned over attack on Pelabuhan Ratu police office JAKARTA (JP): Forty people were being questioned yesterday in connection with Monday's attack on the Pelabuhan Ratu police station in Sukabumi regency, West Java Police Chief Maj. Gen. Nana Permana said. The station was virtually gutted and two cars and three motorcycles belonging to the police were burned-out in the attack. Four criminal suspects in police custody also fled when the fire started to destroy the building.

Indonesians sentenced to death for trafficking KUALA LUMPUR (DPA): Two Indonesian men, who had entered Malaysia to work illegally, were sentenced to death by a Kuala Lumpur court Tuesday for drug trafficking, reports said yesterday. The High Court passed the sentence on Tarmizi Yacob, 25, and Bustaman Bukhari, 23, after finding them guilty of trafficking 2.99 kilograms of cannabis in April last year. The men were arrested after they fled from police in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

The project, on a 2,553-square-meter plot on Jl. Probolinggo, will be jointly undertaken by city-owned developer PT Pulo Mas Jaya and the Sahid Jaya Group, a leading Indonesian hotel chain.
