Sempati responds Sempati would like to respond to statements attributed to Sri Bintang Pamungkas in The Jakarta Post of Thursday, Feb. 2, 1995, in the article titled Agency uncovers more than 220 corruption cases. The article states: "Bintang said that Sempati, a private airline company, has not paid up their purchase of fuel from the state-owned oil firm since 1990." Such a statement is totally untrue. We are shocked that Sri Bintang would have made this remark without checking the facts.

The championship is the first of the season's seven scheduled events, sponsored by the Indonesian Motosport Association, which will have nine divisions. The venue, at the Pugeran Maguwoharjo circuit, will also be the arena for the 11th World Motocross Championships, scheduled for July.

Aneka Tambang to export nickel to Taiwan JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned general mining firm PT Aneka Tambang yesterday signed a long-term contract with the giant stainless steel producer Yieh United Steel Co. of Taiwan for the sale of 25,100 tons of ferronickel for three consecutive years. The agreement was signed by Aneka Tambang's president, Darmoko Slamet, and the managing director of the Yieh United Steel, Hsien-Hsiang Wei, at the Aneka Tambang's headquarters here yesterday.

Mayor orders demolition JAKARTA (JP): West Jakarta mayor, Sutardjianto, has ordered about 1,500 families living along the railway tracks between Duri station and Tangerang station to demolish their houses to make way for the construction of double tracks connecting the two stations. Sutardjianto told Kompas that he had issued a special decree that the dwellers pull down their semi-permanent houses as soon as possible. He said he had set March 14 as the deadline.

'Troops erred in Liquisa incident' CILODONG, Bogor, West Java (JP): The army has acknowledged that troops deviated from standard procedures in the incident which took place on Jan. 12 in Liquisa, East Timor, in which six East Timorese were killed. Army Chief of Staff, General Raden Hartono, said yesterday that the troops, who were on a routine patrol of the Liquisa area, had deviated from standard procedures during the operation. However, Hartono refused to give details of the errors made.

French-RI satellite deal PARIS (AFP): French satellite company Canal France International has signed a deal with an Indonesian firm to boost its coverage into Southeast Asia, the firm announced Wednesday. The seven-year contract gives CFI access to the Indonesian satellite Palapa C1, due to be launched in May 1996, serving the whole of Southeast Asia from India to China and will reach to the South Pacific, "towards Australia and New Zealand," a statement said.
