Mayor orders demolition
JAKARTA (JP): West Jakarta mayor, Sutardjianto, has ordered
about 1,500 families living along the railway tracks between Duri
station and Tangerang station to demolish their houses to make
way for the construction of double tracks connecting the two
stations.
Sutardjianto told Kompas that he had issued a special decree
that the dwellers pull down their semi-permanent houses as soon
as possible.
He said he had set March 14 as the deadline.
"If they have failed to demolish the houses by the deadline, I
will send officials from the city public order office to tear the
houses down," Sutardjianto said, adding that the land belongs to
the state railway company. (bas)
