Investors sought to fund prototype plane BANDUNG (JP): Financially strapped PT Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara (IPTN), the state aircraft manufacturer, is currently seeking new investors to help finance the certification of its prototype N-250 turboprop airplane. The company's technology director, Agung Nugroho, said here on Thursday that IPTN was actively seeking foreign investors to help it finance the certification process, which is estimated to cost up to US$100 million.

Baby-smuggling ring exposed PEKANBARU, Riau: Bengkalis Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle seven babies to Malaysia, a local police spokesman told Antara on Wednesday, exposing a ring of smugglers who have been operating for the past few years. Deputy chief of the Bengkalis Police Maj. Nandang said police arrested five women and two men suspected of trying to smuggle the babies to Malaysia. It was the second successful police operation on baby smuggling.

The fare for regular buses will be doubled from Rp 300 (four US cents) to Rp 600, the fare for non-air-conditioned express buses and limited (PATAS) buses will rise from Rp 700 to Rp 900 and the fare for minibuses will go up to Rp 700 from Rp 500.

Japan to grant licence to Mandiri TOKYO (DPA): Japan's Financial Reconstrucion Commission decided Thursday to give a banking licence to PT Mandiri (Persero) of Indonesia to open a branch office in Tokyo, commission officials said. The bank, one of Indonesia's largest with total assets of more than Rp 200 trillion (about US$30.31 billion), is scheduled to begin operating in Tokyo on July 31, according to the officials.
