Yusril submits final report of the Indonesian National Police Reform Commission to the President
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Services Yusril Ihza Mahendra submitted the final report of the Commission for the Acceleration of Indonesian National Police Reform to President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Yusril stated that he was personally invited by President Prabowo to report on the commission’s work, which had been carrying out its duties for several months and completed its mandate about two months ago.
According to him, the compiled report varies in thickness, from thousands of pages to short summaries to make it easy for the President to understand.
“There is a 3,000-page report, a 300-page one, and some that are only three pages. So, it can be read by the President in a concise manner so that he can understand it well,” Yusril said.
He explained that the report contains various proposals and recommendations from the Commission for the Acceleration of Indonesian National Police Reform regarding improvements to the police institution.
Next, the government will await the President’s instructions after studying the entire report that has been submitted.
Regarding the priority recommendations submitted, Yusril said that the detailed presentation will be carried out directly by the Chairman of the Commission for the Acceleration of Indonesian National Police Reform, Jimly Asshiddiqie, after the report is officially received by the President.
“We have agreed not to announce it to the public before the report is handed directly to the President’s hands,” he said.
Yusril emphasised that the recommendations submitted are substantive and have the potential to bring significant changes to the police institutional system. In fact, several proposals are considered capable of impacting revisions to the current Police Law.
“If approved, there will be implications for changes to the existing Indonesian National Police law,” he added.
