When the Judge Gives Nadiem Another Chance to Recover and Postpones the Trial...
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The continuation of the trial for the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chromebook laptops has been postponed again because former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim is ill.
Nadiem was scheduled to attend the trial on 22 and 23 April 2026.
However, on Wednesday (22/4/2026), Nadiem could not appear in the courtroom, so the panel of judges decided to postpone the examination of witnesses and experts for the defence.
The trial has been rescheduled for Monday (27/4/2026).
“So we have made the time a bit longer for the defendant’s opportunity, perhaps to recover his health. We postpone it to Monday,” said the Chief Judge of the Panel, Purwanto S Abdullah, during the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
Because he felt unable to attend the trial, Nadiem was not brought up one floor from where he is detained.
Based on Kompas.com records, this is the fourth postponement.
The first postponement occurred on 16 December 2025. At that time, Nadiem was supposed to hear the reading of the indictment.
But the trial was postponed because Nadiem was still undergoing post-operative treatment.
The panel of judges accommodated the situation and rescheduled the reading to 5 January 2026.
After the indictment, Nadiem continued to attend the proof sessions for witnesses presented by the public prosecutor.
During the trial, Nadiem had already stated that his health condition often fluctuated. But he claimed to be ready to attend the trial.
Nadiem’s health condition declined again after he was examined as a crown witness for three other defendants.
