JAKARTA – The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is encouraging people to utilise the South Coast Route (Pansela) or South Coast Route of Java as an alternative travel route for the 2026 Eid holiday exodus.

The South Coast Route not only helps alleviate congestion but also offers panoramic views of the southern coast of Java.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that the government continues to ensure the readiness of national road infrastructure so that holiday travel and return traffic can proceed smoothly, safely, and comfortably.

“The South Coast Route can serve as an alternative travel route for holiday travellers. Besides helping reduce congestion on main routes such as the Cikampek area, this route also has significant tourism potential as it passes through the southern coastal area of Java,” said Dody on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

Along this route, holiday travellers can enjoy various coastal tourism destinations such as Rancabuaya Beach and Pangandaran Beach, Parangtritis Beach, and the Sendang Biru coastal area which serves as a gateway to Sempu Island.

As part of efforts to enhance infrastructure reliability along the South Coast corridor, the Ministry of Public Works has completed several preservation and rehabilitation works.

This includes the rehabilitation of the Cidahon Bridge on the national road section of Cilaki–Rancabuaya in Garut Regency, West Java.

The 50.7-metre bridge rehabilitation was carried out by the Large-Scale National Road Implementation Office (BBPJN) of DKI Jakarta–West Java, Directorate General of Road Development, Ministry of Public Works, beginning in October 2025 and has been completed at 100 per cent, to enhance structural reliability and road user safety.

Additionally, the government has also prepared holiday travel posts at various national road sections, including along the South Coast Route from Banten to East Java.

Nationally, 496 holiday travel posts have been deployed with the support of 1,461 Disaster Relief Unit (DRU) units comprising equipment and emergency response materials.

With this infrastructure readiness, the South Coast Route not only serves as an alternative vehicle distribution route during the holiday exodus, but also offers a different travel experience with the natural panorama of the southern coast of Java.
