Semarang — Arnendo (20), a student of the Social Anthropology program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Diponegoro University (Undip), is alleged to have become a victim of assault and gang assault by around 30 of his peers and seniors. As a result, he sustained multiple injuries across his body.

Arnendo, a fourth-semester student, is now represented by legal counsel, Zainal Petir. Through his private Instagram account @zainalpetir_, Zainal has posted pictures showing Arnendo’s physical condition. The video shows bruising on several parts of Arnendo’s body, including a cigarette burn scar.

Zainal disclosed that Arnendo sustained injuries including a broken nose, a concussion, and impairment to the left optic nerve. He said the incident occurred on 15 November 2025.

At that time, Arnendo was invited by a friend named Adyan to a boarding house in Tembalang District, Semarang, to discuss organising a campus music event. Arnendo went to the boarding house in the evening.

According to Zainal, on arrival Arnendo already saw many people gathered in the boarding house’s yard. At that moment, they immediately forced Arnendo to admit to having harassed a female student identified by the initials U. Yet Arnendo denied the accusation. The alleged act of harassment involved Arnendo holding and pulling U’s hand. Arnendo claims that, when he pulled U’s hand, he did not intend to harass; he only wanted to invite her to a nearby eatery.

‘So there was no harassment; the fact that Uca was being led around on a crowded campus, the victim was not alone but with Wiryawan. The incident itself was not harassment but is thought that one of the perpetrators had feelings for Uca,’ said Zainal Petir in a statement, on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

Around 23:00 WIB, M (a sixth-semester Social Anthropology student) began beating Arnendo. ‘After that, the students there, about 30 in number, began to surround the victim; it was terrifying. They kicked and punched him, in turns. Clothes were torn off, including jackets, jeans, and belts,’ Zainal said.
