South Tangerang, Kompas.com – Complaints from residents of South Tangerang City regarding the reappearance of old rural and urban land and building tax (PBB-P2) bills have surfaced on social media.

In a viral post on one Threads account, @siubang, the user claimed to have received a Tax Due Notification Letter (SPPT) listing years of arrears, even though the payments were said to have been settled long ago.

The resident stated that the arrears shown in the SPPT covered the years 2000, 2001, 2003, 2009, and 2010.

“After I checked with the payment proofs I have, everything has already been paid,” the user wrote on Friday (10/4/2026).

The user also revealed that similar situations are not experienced by them alone, but also by several other residents in their neighbourhood.

The post has triggered suspicions of problems in the management of local tax data.

The Head of the South Tangerang Revenue Agency (Bapenda), Eki Herdiana, explained that the emergence of these old bills is related to legacy arrears data still stored in the PBB-P2 administrative system.

“Some of the arrears data is data whose management was transferred from the central government to the local government in 2014,” Eki said when confirmed via WhatsApp on Friday.

He added that administratively, this arrears data continues to appear in the PBB-P2 system as long as payment has not been made or the requirements for cancellation have not been met.

To address the issue, Bapenda is conducting gradual data collection and verification to improve the quality of tax data.

The process includes registration, collection, billing, and verification of arrears for each tax object.

“All of this is done in accordance with applicable laws and regulations in carrying out tax administration,” he said.

Although the data collection process is still ongoing, Eki asked residents who believe they have fulfilled their tax obligations but are still recorded as having arrears to report immediately by attaching proof of payment.

Reports can be submitted through the official Bapenda Tangsel WhatsApp at 0878-3548-4000 or by coming directly to the Bapenda Tangsel Office in Cilenggang.

This step is part of efforts to ensure data accuracy and provide certainty to taxpayers.

“We are conducting massive data collection for tax data quality improvement,” he said.
