KEDIRI, East Java: Nine pairs of British and Indonesian youths
have started a three-month volunteer service in Kediri, East
Java, under the World Youth Millennium Award (WYMA).
The pairs, each comprising a British participant and an
Indonesian counterpart, will as of this week be divided. Four
pairs are assigned in the city of Kediri while the five others
will be stationed in Pare, Kediri regency.
According to Kediri regency spokesman Zainal Machsun, the

British Council aims at promoting bilateral ties in social,
cultural and youth affairs.
Financed by a British non-governmental organization, the
participants will stay with several "foster" families while

The youth volunteers will be engaged in various practical jobs
in extraordinary schools for the disabled, orphanages, job
training centers, foreign language courses and paddy production
