Two Pertamina Ships Receive Positive Signals Regarding Permission to Transit the Strait of Hormuz
Jakarta, VIVA – The latest updates regarding two Indonesian-owned ships belonging to Pertamina that are still held up while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz have been provided by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu).
Spokesperson for Kemenlu, Yvonne Mewengkang, stated that there is now a glimmer of hope regarding transit permissions for the two ships, as the Iranian government has given positive signals on the matter. Yvonne even mentioned that the two Pertamina ships are currently preparing to cross the Strait of Hormuz.
“Based on coordination between Kemenlu and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran with Pertamina, the Iranian Embassy in Jakarta, and relevant Iranian parties in Tehran, the Iranian Embassy has conveyed the positive consideration of the Iranian government regarding the security of the passage of ships owned by the Pertamina Group through the Strait of Hormuz,” said Yvonne in a statement, quoted on Monday, 30 March 2026.
She assured that Kemenlu and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran will continue to coordinate with all parties to ensure the safe passage of Pertamina’s ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
On the other hand, PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has begun preparing the technical aspects for crossing the strait, which has been closed by Iran amid their war against the United States (US), which is allied with Israel.
In its statement on Sunday, 29 March 2026, Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, confirmed that the company is also continuing to coordinate with Kemenlu to prepare the technicalities for the passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Currently, the two Pertamina ships, Pride and Gamsunoro, are still in the Arabian Gulf or Persian Gulf. Vega also emphasised that the crew and ship personnel are monitored to be in safe condition so far.
“PIS together with Kemenlu is discussing the technicalities so that the two ships, Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, can cross the Strait of Hormuz safely,” said Vega.
Therefore, Vega expressed appreciation to Kemenlu for its full support in handling this situation.
“Since this issue arose, PIS has conducted intensive coordination with Kemenlu, which has actively engaged in diplomatic communication with relevant authorities. To date, these diplomatic efforts continue to proceed,” she said.
