Transjakarta Bus Driver Remains Witness Status in Fatal Motorcyclist Collision at Gunung Sahari
Jakarta – RJ (48), a Transjakarta bus driver who struck and killed a motorcyclist on Gunung Sahari Street, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, remains under witness status.
Metro Jaya Police Chief of Traffic, Brigadier Kombes Pol Komarudin, stated that his office continues to investigate the driver. “His status is as a witness. The investigation process is ongoing as we examine what facts may emerge, in addition to the legal aspects of the accident itself,” Komarudin explained when met at Silang Selatan Monas, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
The incident occurred when the motorcycle, ridden by the victim with initials SP (23), attempted to overtake the Transjakarta bus. Due to insufficient distance and being in the bus driver’s blind spot, the driver could not see the motorcyclist clearly.
Additionally, the bus driven by RJ (48) was travelling at a low speed, but was unable to stop the vehicle quickly. “With a speed of only around 30 km/h, the vehicle could not stop. Large vehicles do not brake like small vehicles that stop immediately when braked; large vehicles have deceleration,” Komarudin explained.
In a previous report, Transjakarta’s Head of Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility, Ayu Wardhani, explained the collision sequence involving the motorcyclist and the Transjakarta bus on Gunung Sahari Street, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta.
Based on CCTV footage, the accident allegedly occurred when the motorcyclist attempted to overtake the bus from the left side at high speed to enter the bus lane.
The motorcyclist who died was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), Cikini, Central Jakarta.
One person riding on the motorcycle sustained injuries and was taken to Hermina Podomoro Hospital, North Jakarta.
The bus fleet has been secured at the Pancoran Traffic Accident Unit. Transjakarta has also submitted the CCTV footage.
