TPS opens tender for crane

SURABAYA: Container terminal operator PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) has opened a procurement tender for a crane worth US$5.5 million to replace the old one that collapsed on Feb. 7 in a heavy storm.

Company president director Satoto Prayasutiksno said that there were several companies from Japan, South Korea and Argentina interested to join the tender.

He hoped that the crane could be acquired immediately so that operations could return to normal.

TPS currently has a total of 10 cranes in operation.

For the full year, TPS expected its container volume to reach 1 million twenty-feet equivalent units (TEUs) from around 800,000 last year, said Satoto.

As of October, the container volume managed by TPS had reached 815,851 TEUs, delivered by 1,160 ships.

State-owned seaport operator PT Pelindo III owns 51 percent shares in TPS, and P&O Ports, a division of P&O Australia Ltd., owns the remaining 49 percent.

TPS is located in Indonesia's second largest port Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, East Java. The terminal has a capacity of over 2 million TEUs. -- JP
