Tourism Minister Predicts Eid Holiday to Spark Tourism Boom
JAKARTA — Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana has identified the Eid al-Fitr holiday period as a crucial momentum for Indonesia’s national tourism sector. The extended break during the Islamic celebration of Idul Fitri is regarded as a period characterised by significant surges in tourist movement and visitor numbers across various regions of Indonesia.
Widiyanti noted that the characteristic lengthy duration of the Eid holiday consistently serves as a primary driver in increasing domestic tourist arrivals. This momentum is considered effective in stimulating economic growth at various tourism destinations.
“The extended Eid holiday represents the largest opportunity for increased movement of domestic tourists and heightened visits by international tourists to Indonesia,” she stated on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
Consequently, the Ministry of Tourism is conducting inspections to ensure that tourism facility managers have prepared facilities and services to accommodate increased visitor numbers during the Eid holiday. The Ministry is seeking to enhance tourism services during the 2026 Eid break, including providing the Halo Wonderful platform to deliver information services, complaint handling, aspiration channels, and tourism consultation.
Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism is coordinating with other stakeholders to organise business meetings and the Proud to Tour in Indonesia (BBWI) exhibition, as well as the Shop in Indonesia Only (BINA) campaign. The Ministry is also supporting the promotion of tourism events in regions and presenting information about Eid holiday tour packages on the indonesia.travel portal.
“We have also issued a circular to tourism industry associations and online travel agents requesting ticket price reductions,” she said.
The Ministry of Tourism is committed to delivering tourism activities that are safe, comfortable, and enjoyable during the 2026 Eid holiday. The Tourism Minister has issued a circular regarding the organisation of safe, comfortable, and enjoyable tourism activities during the Islamic holiday of Idul Fitri 1447 H/2026 M to encourage relevant stakeholders to optimise services for tourists.
“The circular contains appeals to local governments, destination managers, and all parties to prepare destinations for the Eid holiday period,” Widiyanti said.
