Today, Ibrahim Arief—Former Subordinate of Nadiem—Faces Prosecution in Chromebook Corruption Case
Three defendants in the alleged corruption case concerning the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops will face a hearing for the reading of the prosecution demands on Thursday (16 April 2026) today.
They are Ibrahim Arief, former technology consultant for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), Mulyatsyah, former Director of Junior Secondary Schools at Kemendikbudristek, and Sri Wahyuningsih, former Director of Primary Schools at Kemendikbudristek.
“Thursday, 16 April 2026, Agenda for prosecution,” states the Central Jakarta District Court Case Search Information System (SIPP PN Jakpus), on Wednesday (15 April 2026).
In addition to the three defendants above, former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim is also charged in this case, but he is undergoing a separate trial under a different case number.
The calculation of state losses is divided into two components: the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops and the procurement of Chrome Device Management (CDM).
Prosecutors assess that the CDM procurement harmed the state because it was unnecessary and not required for the Kemendikbudristek Digital Education Programme at the time.
Furthermore, the Chromebook procurement process is deemed problematic due to the lack of proper feasibility studies.
Additionally, Nadiem is charged with enriching himself by Rp 809.5 billion in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.
Nadiem is considered to have abused his authority by directing the procurement specifications to make Google the sole controller of Indonesia’s education ecosystem.
“That the defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim has abused his position by directing the Chromebook laptop specifications to use Chrome Device Management (CDM)/Chrome Education Upgrade, thereby making Google the sole entity controlling Indonesia’s education ecosystem,” the prosecutor continued.
“The source of funds for PT AKAB is largely from Google’s total investment in PT AKAB amounting to US$786,999,428. This can be seen from the wealth of defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim recorded in the 2022 LHKPN, with asset gains in securities worth Rp 5,590,317,273,184,” stated the prosecutor.
Nadiem and the other defendants are considered to have violated Article 2 Paragraph (1) and Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended and supplemented by Law No. 20 of 2001 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) first of the Criminal Code.
