TikTok Declares Readiness to Comply with PP Tunas, Accounts of Children Under 16 to Be Restricted Starting Today
Short video platform TikTok has stated its readiness to comply with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas).
The regulation, which officially takes effect today, requires digital platforms to deactivate accounts belonging to child users under the age of 16 as part of efforts to strengthen child protection in the online world.
“TikTok is committed to complying with this regulation in accordance with the transition period outlined in PP Tunas, including taking compliance measures regarding accounts of teenagers under 16 years old after the self-assessment process, and through close consultation with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi),” TikTok stated on its official website on Friday (27/3/2026).
TikTok also assured that it will strive to be a safe platform for its users, including teenagers.
“We also use the most innovative technology to detect accounts that violate the age limit policy, and suspend accounts identified as non-compliant,” TikTok said.
TikTok stated that on its platform, teen accounts have more than 50 automatically enabled security, privacy, and safety settings.
They said they will take the necessary steps in line with regulatory expectations, while continuing to strengthen the security system.
“We will continue to engage constructively with Komdigi in the self-assessment process, and hope that this regulation will be implemented fairly and consistently across all social media platforms,” TikTok concluded.
The Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) stated that as of 27 March 2026, only four out of a total of eight platforms are cooperative and ready to comply with PP Tunas.
The four platforms are X/Twitter, Bigo Live, TikTok, and Roblox.
Menkomdigi said that the X/Twitter platform has reportedly aligned its community guidelines by changing the minimum user age to 16 years since 17 March.
Elon Musk’s microblogging platform had previously requested an extension of time. However, they are now beginning to identify and deactivate underage child accounts starting today.
Meanwhile, Bigo Live has taken more comprehensive steps. This platform has raised the age limit for its users to 18+ in the user agreement (user content) and privacy policy sections.
