Surge in Digital Fraud Before Eid, Bank Saqu Launches 'Beware of Cyber Ghosts' Campaign
Bank Saqu has launched an educational campaign titled ‘Beware of Cyber Ghosts’ to remind customers to remain vigilant against various forms of digital fraud ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
During this period, public digital transaction activity typically increases significantly. Cybercriminals frequently exploit this momentum to perpetrate various fraud schemes, including false messages about package deliveries, shopping promotions, and impersonations of representatives from financial institutions requesting personal data or one-time passwords (OTP).
Angela Lew Dermawan, Chief Digital & Retail Business Officer at Bank Saqu, stated that the ‘Beware of Cyber Ghosts’ initiative is part of the bank’s ongoing effort to support customers in conducting secure transactions in the digital era.
“In today’s digital world, cyber threats often arrive undetected and are not always clearly visible, but their impact can be very real for the public,” Angela said on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
Data from the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) shows that Indonesia experiences hundreds of millions of cyber traffic anomalies annually, with the potential to lead to various digital attacks.
Meanwhile, a report from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) indicates that public losses from digital fraud, including social engineering and OTP misuse, were estimated to exceed 2.5 trillion rupiah in 2024.
Industry reports also noted that between November 2024 and September 2025, there were over 274,000 reports of financial fraud in Indonesia, with estimated public losses exceeding 6 trillion rupiah.
Therefore, Angela emphasised that the bank simply wants to remind customers to remain vigilant against various fraud tactics, particularly during special occasions such as Eid al-Fitr.
“Through ‘Beware of Cyber Ghosts’, Bank Saqu hopes the public will better understand how to protect themselves and safeguard their personal data when conducting transactions,” she said.
Angela added that the ‘Beware of Cyber Ghosts’ campaign employs a creative communication approach through the personification of the “Cyber Ghost”, which illustrates the various digital threats that frequently threaten public financial activity in the digital world.
Through a light and easily understood storytelling approach, Bank Saqu aims to help the public recognise various fraud tactics whilst understanding simple steps to protect themselves.
