'Streetcar' performance
JAKARTA (JP): American playwright Tennessee Williams' renowned play A Streetcar named Desire will be performed for the first time here under the name of Pusaran by Teater Lembaga.
The play, to be held April 14 to 16 in the Teater Tertutup at Taman Ismail Marzuki, on Jl. Cikini Raya, Central Jakarta, will be in Bahasa Indonesia as translated by poet Toto Sudarto Bakhtiar.
Joseph Ginting will direct Pusaran, which will be performed by students at Jakarta's Arts Institute (IKJ). Teater Lembaga, established in 1975 by Indonesia's leading artists Pramana P.M.D., Tatiek Maliyati W.S., and the late Wahyu Sihombing and D.Djajakusuma, is IKJ's formal theater group where students of the institute can practise their skills and talents.
The group has previously performed about 18 plays, including Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman and Hendrik Ibsen's Wild Duck. (als)
