SINGAPORE (AFP): Singapore and Malaysia began on Tuesday a
five-day joint naval exercise to bolster understanding between
their two navies.
The shore-based war games, codenamed Exercise MALAPURA 12/00,
will involve nine command teams from the Singapore Navy and the
Royal Malaysian Navy, a joint statement issued here said.
Command teams from both navies will participate in joint
planning and execution of naval operations plans during the
exercises at Singapore's tactical training center in Tuas Naval
Base.
"The exercise will allow the two navies to share professional
knowledge and foster understanding between them," the statement
said.
This year's wargames mark the start of a three-year cycle of
exercises between the Singapore and Malaysian navies -- the first
and second years confined to onshore and the third year involving
exercises at sea.
